Bhutan Travel Information

Bhutan follows a high-value, low-volume tourism policy designed to preserve its culture, environment, and way of life.

International

USD 100

Per Person / Night

All international visitors are required to pay a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of USD 100 per person per night.

Children aged between 6 and 12 years receive a reduced rate of USD 50 per night. These rates remain valid until 31st August 2027.

India

BTN 1,200

Per Person / Night

Regional tourists from India are required to pay an SDF of BTN/INR 1,200 per person per night.

Indian day visitors are exempt from the SDF if they remain within the first designated entry point, including Phuentsholing.

Bangladesh

USD 15

Per Person / Night

Bangladeshi tourists are eligible for a concessional SDF rate of USD 15 per person per night.

This applies to the first 15,000 visitors annually as part of Bhutan’s regional tourism initiative.

Bhutan Flight

Bhutan’s only international airport is Paro International Airport, located in western Bhutan and surrounded by dramatic Himalayan mountains.

Travelers can enter Bhutan through regional gateway cities including Delhi, Kolkata, Kathmandu, Bangkok, Singapore, Dhaka, Guwahati, Bagdogra, and Bodh Gaya.

International flights are currently operated by Drukair and Bhutan Airlines under Bhutan’s carefully regulated tourism system.

Overland Travel

Via road.

Visitors may also enter Bhutan overland through the southern border town of Phuentsholing, the country’s primary road entry point.

Indian nationals can additionally enter through Gelephu, Samdrup Jongkhar, and Samtse, supporting cross-border regional travel.

Domestic flights connect destinations such as Bumthang, Gelephu, and Yonphula, making travel across Bhutan’s valleys and mountain regions more accessible.
